Alec Gemmell

Fascinating musical evening in Seaton

Friday, February 10, 2012
6.30 PM

Lovers of the horn will welcome the return of the bright young soloist, Alec Frank-Gemmill, joining the American tenor John McMunn and the pianist Matthew Schellhorn, often heard on Radio 3, for SeatonMusic’s next concert.

Alec Frank-Gemmill has been principal horn of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since September 2009. He is also frequently invited to play first horn with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic and the Philharmonia. Besides orchestral work, he is much in demand as a soloist and in chamber music.

John McMunn was educated at the Boston University Opera Institute; Harvard University; King’s College Cambridge as a choral scholar; and the Royal College of Music. As well as opera and oratorio performances, he is an accomplished recitalist and a proponent of new music. In 2013, he will sing the title role in Britten’s The Prodigal Son with Mahogany Opera at the Aldeburgh and City of London Festivals, and on tour in Russia and Japan.

Matthew Schellhorn was selected as a ‘talent to watch’ for 2007 BBC Music Magazine, and described as a ‘rising star’ (BBC Radio 3) and ‘one of Britain’s most exciting young pianists’ (Classic FM). He also has a growing international career, which, in recent seasons, has taken him to Europe, Ireland and North America. His performances of the music of Olivier Messiaen have been met with superlative critical approval.

Join SeatonMusic at Seaton Town Hall for a fascinating evening on Thursday, February 16, at 7.30 pm. Tickets £12.50 from the box office or on the door 01297 625699.
