Through photography, sculpture, poetry and music, Deep Time illustrates the Jurassic Coast’s magnificent tapestry of beaches, bays and cliffs.

It depicts 185 million years of earth history in just 95 miles covering the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods: past climates, mass extinction events, and how man has shaped the landscape.

Villages in Action (Devon) and Artsreach (Dorset) commissioned the highly acclaimed wildlife photographer Ben Osborne to record a photographic journey of the Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site.

This exhibition brings together Ben’s exploration of ‘deep time’ of the extraordinary geology underpinning the landscape, how nature has invaded it, and the human story of the ways we have molded and used the coast. Ben’s journey was not a solitary one – he travelled with three other companions; poet Matt Harvey, sculptor Lal Hitchcock and musician Sammy Hurden.

There will also be a programme of participatory events, workshops and talks taking place across East Devon during the spring.

The events, such as photography, singing workshops and geology talks, will be inspired by and related to the Jurassic Coast.

The Deep Time Exhibition will be at the Springs Gallery, Farringdon, on Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 11, between 11am and 4pm.

A Singing Workshop will also take place at the same venue on Sunday, March 11, between 11am and 4pm.

A Driftwood Sculpture Workshop will take place at Victory Hall, Stockland, on Sunday, April 1, between 11am and 4pm.

The Deep Time Exhibition returns to East Devon, when it visits the Stockland Victory Hall, on Saturday, March 31, and Sunday, April 1, between 10am and 4pm.

Later, the exhibition moves on to Kennaway House, Sidmouth, between Thursday, April 12 and Thursday, April 19, from 11am – 4pm.
