Axminster and District Choral Society and Orchestra present their Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 1, in The Minster Church, Axminster, at 7.30pm, with JS Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.

Conducted by Judy Martin, who joined the society last January as musical director, this follows the very successful Haydn’s Creation concert in the spring and the Jubilee Concert performed at the end of May with the Salamanca Band of The Rifles, which raised £5,000 for Care for Casualties and The Baton.

This time the society choir will be accompanied by its own orchestra, many of whom played at the Haydn’s Creation concert.

The society has built up links with leading professional musicians in Devon who come together under their leader, Malcolm Latchem.

Judy Martin, whose family are all actively involved in the Devon’s classical music scene has sourced some outstanding young soloists who are starting to make their name, most of whom having strong links to the area.

She will be ably supported by her partner, Peter Parshall, who is also the assistant music director, on the chamber organ, and by the locally based and former cathedral organist, Peter Lea-Cox on the harpsichord.

The Exmouth Festival organiser is recommending that festival visitors should park at the Maer Road car park (£6 all day) and take a return trip on the land train to the special stop for the Imperial ‘rec ground (located between stops 6 and 7).
