The next few months sees the staging of three major orchestral concerts at Sidmouth Parish Church.

The first concert is on Saturday, March 11, starting at 7.30pm.

Popular classics by Beethoven (Violin Romance in F), Mozart (Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola) and Bruch (Kol Nidre for viola and orchestra) feature with extracts from Carmen by Bizet and Spanish music by De Falla (Three Cornered Hat, Suites 1 and 2).

The concert features two acclaimed young soloists from Europe. There’s violinst Amarins Wierdsma from the Netherlands along with Christoph Slenczka, a violist from Germany. They are members of the Barbican String Quartet, who are based in London and are regular performers in Europe, especially at the Salzburg Mozartarium concerts.

Further concerts later this year feature the international German pianist Andreas Boyde playing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto on May 13, and the return of the young violinist Emmanuel Bach on November 25, who will be performing the Violin Concerto by Sibelius.

Other major concerts are also planned throughout 2018, details of which will appear on the orchestra’s website.

Tickets for all events may be obtained in advance from Paragon Books, Sidmouth (call 01395 514516). Early booking is advised for the March 11 concert.
