After months of rehearsals, prop-making, set building and painting, the curtain is set to rise on Axminster Drama Club’s pantomime, The Pied Piper of Hamelin.

The cast have been working hard to produce the show, which includes new faces as well as a number of familiar ones and a large troupe of 30 children, playing the parts of rats and village children

The story revolves around the traditional tale of the town of Hamelin being infested by rats.

The Pied Piper is engaged to encourage the rats out of town but when he isn’t satisfied with his pay, he takes the children too.

Being a pantomime, there is a happy ending but to see the twists and turns of the tale, you will have to get along to Axminster Guildhall.

As always the set and costumes are truly amazing and this looks like being a very colourful and enjoyable show.

The club will throughout the production be supporting the Axminster Canned Sunshine Project so when you come to a performance please bring any unwanted tinned or packaged food.

The show runs from Thursday, January 17 to Saturday, January 19, with performances starting at 7.30pm each day, and a matinee on the Saturday, at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available from Archway Bookshop, in Church Street (01297 33595), with adult tickets costing £8 in advance or £10 on the door and concessions costing £6.50 in advance and £7.50 on the door.
