Woodbury Cricket Club are set to stage their annual 6-a-side competition this coming weekend.

The event is now in its fourth year and has grown year on year to become a well-organised and great fun ‘cricketing-day-out’.

There are six locals teams again taking part, all playing for the honour of lifting the Dubuisson Shield.

The trophy is named in memory of Val Dubuisson, the clubs late chairman and president.

As ever there is a trophy on offer for the player who strikes the most six hits on the day and the other ‘notable’ match day award if the ‘Golden Duck Award’ presented each year to the least successful side!

In the competition each player, with the exception of the wicket keeper, has to bowl and over. Batsmen retire having reached 20, but they can return to the wicket if the rest of the team are out before the end of the allotted overs.

In the first three years of the competition a team score of over 50 is generally competitive.

Played in a good spirit, it is always a fun event, with a barbecue and bar during play. Newton Poppleford have been the sole previous winners, with the Maltsters Arms from Woodbury being unlucky runners-up on two occasions. All spectators and supporters will be made very welcome and play gets under way at 10.30am.
