Colaton Raleigh 5, Woodbury 2
Woodbury made the short trip to Colaton Raleigh for a Bill Slee Cup tie.
The Woods pre-match planning was hamstrung by the withdrawal, on the morning of then match, of two players.
They then shipped three goals inside ten minutes to leave themselves a mountain to climb!
However, this Woodbury outfit this season is laden with character and they showed it again as they gradually gained a foothold in the game.
Craig Leaman struck first and then Richard Hill scored a superb goal to make it 3-2 at half-time.
After then break it was Woodbury who enjoyed the better of things and they could have been level had a Ryan Smith shot not taken a deflection and fizzed just past an upright.
The game swung fro end to end and the crucial first goal of the second half fell to the home side who then added a late fifth to seal victory.
Woods boss Adam Reid said: “I am pleased with what the lads produced. Given the circumstance and the heavy pitch it was a good effort. Looking around the lads before the match I felt one or two looked as if they needed a rest whilst Jonny Killick gallantly went on as a substitute despite clearly not being anywhere near fit for the task!
We’ll have to shuffle the pack for the game this weekend, but we are also going to be boosted with the return of a couple of players who missed this game.”
On Saturday Woodbury are set to face Exmouth Amateurs and that means Woods’ Wayne Rowsell facing his former team mates!
