Woodbury Park Order of Merit Medal success for James Delve

22:51 02 July 2014

It was another week of competition and close run finishes at Woodbury Park, writes John Bridgman.

Amidst all the local events we have enjoyed the many visiting societies whose kind words about our championship course have been much appreciated..

The seniors took off on a short trip to Lyme Regis and came home undefeated by drawing three-all. Those unlucky not to make the ‘team’ stayed at home to play a stableford in three man teams.

Victory went to Bill Mason, John Man and Martin Creed with 84 points.

Peter Martin, Roy Barber and Alan Stone were a little way behind in second with 76.

Third place saw Dave Freeman, Doug Budgen and Don Jones score 74.

The Midweek Medal was a close run affair won, eventually won by Colin Gray with a nett 68. He was followed home by Ralph Karkeek and David Priestner, separated on countback after both scored 70.

Last Saturday saw round three of the Order of Merit medal.

Division One had James Delve home in nett 67 winning from John Anderson 70, and third was Paul Wright with 71.

The Second Division was also a close run affair with Steve Robb carded a nett 69. Jeremy Thompson and Darren Taylor both had to be seperated on countback with 71. In Division Three Matthew Smith took the win with a splended nett 66. He did play off 23 but not for much longer I’m sure. Once again second and third places had to be seperated on countback. Stuart O’Higgins and Lee Mottram both shot a nett 72. Sunday last saw our East Devon League team slope off to Fingle Glen and beat the current leaders Sidmouth by three and a half to one and a half. Well done fellahs, shame no photo’s available. Not surprising really as they are camera shy, but being an ugly bunch, who in their right mind would bother eh!

Looking forward to much good golf next week, happy whacking, John.
