Woodbury Park London Pride Medal win for Jamie Davidson.
10:17 05 June 2014
Woodbury Park’s seemingly marathon run of encounters with county cousins East Devon continued last week, writes John Bridgman.
American Greensomes were the order of the day and played on a course in pristine condition, but the wind had much more of an influence as the day wore on. Played, as always, in a competitive spirit, the outcome was a draw with both side’s ending with two-and-a-half points.
The Woodbury Park points were won by seniors captain, Chris Padget and partner Marleen Johnson, and Tim and Sue Kirk. Half a point went to Chris Wright and Maggie Quaddie. After a great meal and some back-patting, the formalities ended with a thank you from both captains.
The senior contingent were out in earnest to play an individual stableford qualifier. Martin Creed took the honours with 38 points just pipping David Morris on 37. Third place went to Simon Davies with 36.
The Midweek Medal last week saw Roger Spraque cruise home in a nett score of 67 (handicap 22, but not for much longer!)
Jamie Davidson was second with 71 (handicap 13), and Mattew Arscott took third with 73 (handicap 20).
Last Sunday saw the playing of the London Pride Medal and the Ladies Express and Echo Foursomes which were both played in pretty good weather conditions.
Jamie Davidson, remembering Wednesdays effort, surpassed all of that to take the Medal with a magnificent nett 59. He also landed himself a case of Fullers London Pride Beer and must be a favourite to go through to national final as one of the top 80 national scores based on the days CSS of 74.
Congratulations also to Julie Brown and Carol Pye who were the overall winners of the Ladies Express and Echo Foursomes competition.
Second were Lyn Playford and Wendy Taylor. Both pairs will progress to play at Fingle Glen in the final on September 5.
That’s it for another week from here where dreams can come true so if your up for it, pay us a visit, be lucky!
