Woodbury look in good shape for the start of the new football season after a good start to their pre-season.
Off the pitch they were given a huge boost with a Presentation Evening that saw almost £700 raised for club funds with much of that down to the sterling efforts of East Budleigh’s Phil Page who certainly found a way to separate the punter and his cash!
Further thanks should go to the Maltsters for their hosting of the event.
In terms of the award, the much vaunted ‘Players’ Player’ in the first team went to striker Alex Hughes who also went home with the golden boot for his scoring exploits during the 2012-13 campaign.
Alan Doble was a worthy winner of the Young Player of the Year award and he also won the second team Players’ Player honour.
Ben Collins picked up both second team manager’s award and the chairman’s award after his fine season at full-back.
Richie Ralph won the senior side’s manger’s player honour and was also named skipper for the coming season.
Russell Pengelly will assume the role of vice captain. The Goal of the Season award went to Declan Bourne for his superb strike last October in the game against Heavitree United.
Dave Leaper has been confirmed as the new third team boss and he has had what look a promising crop of young players already in training.
The opening senior side pre-season friendly saw Woodbury draw 1-1 with Lords XI.
Luke Bradford scored after good work from Dan Fulls and the second match of the pre-season period saw the Woodbury Reserves edged out 3-2 at home by Clyst Valley
The clubs AGM too place on Tuesday night where it was hoped a couple of new committee members would be elected.
