Woodbury 1, Hemyock 1
Woodbury banked a point from an entertaining Fresha League meeting with second-in-the-table Hemyock at the Archery Club.
The Woods made the worst possible start, conceding a goal inside 90 seconds!
The early blow unsettled the home side, but they were close to levelling when Andy Bennett’s header was a fraction wide of the mark. The industrious Dan Fulls pounced on a defensive error, but was crowded out. Hemyock responded well, but the Woods looked solid at the back with Rhys Perry impressing.
After the break Woodbury began to press for the equaliser. Bennett spurned a good opportunity before changes were made. Dann Tapp was introduced for his pace, Gareth Davies for his creativity and Declan Bourne for strength and the changes paid off as Davies threaded a pin-point ball through to Bourne who rounded the defender before firing past the goalkeeper.
Woodbury now went in search of a winner. They first hit the wood work and then went close first through Bennett and then Ralph. It was not all one-way and Woods glovesman Wayne Rowsell made a good stop to deny the visitors before they too spurned a gilt edged chance to win it!
The Woods Man of the Match award went to Brett Gloyn with good supporting roles from Rhys Perry, Terry Skeggs and the three substitutes.
Woodbury team: W Rowsell, Glanvill-Ford, Leaper, Skeggs, Perry, Leaman, (Tapp 60) Ralph, Gloyn, Fulls (Davies 60) Wright (Bourne 65) Bennett.
Woodbury are without a fixture this weekend.
