Newtown Fourths 0, Woodbury Reserves 4
Woodbury Reserves where forced to switch their Geary Cup quarter final to Newtown’s base at Broadclyst due to a lack of playable pitches.
The Woods players were hoping to emulate the Woodbury 1st team who had worn at the same venue just 24 hours before.
The first 45 minutes was very even with the home team having advantage of a stiff breeze blowing down the pitch.
Woodbury were comfortable, but failed to trouble the home keeper and suffered a blow when they lost the services of the energetic Wayne Gooding to a hamstring pull that looks likely to keep him out of this weekends action.
After the break Woodbury took control. Kev Pitt turned sharply in the area to fire home from six-yards to break the deadlock.
Alex Hughes doubled the lead with a long range free-kick and when Pitt made it three, following a Dave Vickery cross, it was clearly game over!
Jordan Bishop powered home a header to complete the scoring after good work on the left flank by Ben Collins.
Woodbury’s reward for the victory is a semi-final tie at one of Pinhoe, Bickleigh or Tipton St John.
