Woodbury Park has enjoyed several weddings (but no funerals) this week, with lone pipers marching backwards and forwards across the ‘Terrace’, writes John Bridgman.

It’s hard to concentrate whilst putting out on eighteen especially if you’ve got the dreaded ‘yips’.

Nonetheless, the seniors were out in force playing a team stableford. Terry Welsh, Mike Dillon and Terry Tilbury buried the rest of the field with 77 points.

Second place went to Andrzej Sobczak, Dave Freeman and Sid Parr on 71.

Not too far behind with 70 were Ian Scott, John Man and Martin Creed. The Midweek Medal saw Ian Stephenson home with a nett 71 playing off 10. Neil Gauntlett had 72 off 9, beating Ralph Karkeek, also 72 playing off 16 on countback.

The weekend stableford competition drew 116 players to the course on a fine day. Simon Challis (who you may recall plays a lot of his golf matches late in the evening, usually finishing in the dark) came in with the overall winning score of 41 points, in daylight hours.

Well done, nice timing!

Second place in Division One went to Colin Wilson on 38 with Richard Wallace home in 37. Division Two saw Simon Courtney 40 points winning on countback from Darron Taylor also with 40 points.

Third place was taken by Chris Bryant on 38.

In Division Three it was Terry Welsh who took the win, his second success in a week, scoring 39 and that was sufficient to edge out Chris Wright on 38. Third was Francois Helmer with a score of 36 points. Congratulations to all concerned this week, and I leave you with my thought for the future. When you sign up to play in any competition, at least turn up in good time, and if you cannot, for any reason, give ample notice.

Do not upset your committee, you wouldn’t like them when they are upset!

Happy whacking, cheers John.
