East Devon’s drag racing ace Mark ‘Wolfie’ Smith was in action at the latest Straightliners meeting held at the Dakota Raceway over the last weekend in April.

‘Wolfie’ went into the meeting with high hopes now that he is using nitrous oxide in a bid to get faster and faster.

However, issues with his nitrous meant that Wolfie was unable to find a way to his best time, which remains at 9.30 – though he did clock 9.37 a couple of times. However, any disappointment over not getting ‘the big one’ were tempered by the fact that he did end this latest outing as the event’s fastest bike, fastest vehicle and fastest 60ft run, the latter he did in a time of 1.470 seconds! He also clocked a new Personal Best (PB) for speed, reaching 156 mph, which is 1mph better than his previous fastest speed. Next up is a June 16/17 meeting at East Kirkby when, all being well, Wolfie will hit even faster speeds and see him set new record times!

‘Wolfie’ said of his latest outing: “It was unfortunate that the gremlins were about, but these things happen, and I am confident that, with the continued backing of my wonderful sponsors – and a touch of good fortune – we will be achieving those mega speeds and times before the year is out.”
