Withycombe Under-10s played their first competitive game of the season against a much larger Sidmouth side at Sidford.
Constant RFU rule changes and uncontested scrums for the first time didn’t seem to affect either side and game one served up a feast of attacking rugby from both teams. Charlie Passmore outstripped the home defence twice to score both Withy tries, but the hosts struck back with two of their own to see the game end all square at 10-10.

Game two saw Withy firing on all cylinders. A feature was the aggressive tackling of Sam Skinner, Erin Asselman and Ollie Willis which forced errors from Sidmouth.
Harry Bennett notched a hat-trick of tries with his pace and Charlie Passmore scored twice more as Withy chalked up a resounding 35-5 victory.
This was a most satisfying morning’s work from the Withy youngsters with everyone contributing in a brace of fine games against worthy opposition.
Both Aaron Humphreys and Alex Stortenbeker made impressive debuts for the team.
