Withycombe Under-10s were good value for a brace of wins over Crediton at Raleigh Park.
The first game saw Withy Green take on the Mid Devon side in what proved to be robust encounter with little to separate the teams in a an evenly contested first half that ended 2-2.
With Crediton providing some sizeable opposition the Withy boys tackled with purpose to halt any progression.
After the break and noticeably upping their game in all areas Withy began to dominate at the breakdown, securing ball and passing well to release runners despite some stern defence by the visitors.
As a result of this powerful second half show a further four tries were run in by Withy to see them to a deserved 6-2 win.
Will Jones (3), Matthew Rye (2) and Zac Burnard were the try scorers whilst the Withy Man of the Match award went to Cameron White for a fine all-round show that included determined aggressive play.
Withy Black then took to the pitch for what proved to be a very similar well-contested match. Little quarter was shown by either side with just the one first half score giving Crediton the interval advantage.
After the break the hard working Withy side finally began to dominate with solid rucking and counter-rucking which saw them win a greater share of possession enabling them to fashion a brace of tries for Tom Humphry to win the game 2-1.
A feature of the second half show was the Withy tackling and pressure play that forced the opposition onto the back foot.
The Man of the Match award was shared by Max Rickards and Tom Humprhy for aggressive tackling and ground making runs
The previous day the Withy youngsters had been at Sandy Park for one of the very popular Exeter Chiefs’ Super Saturday events.
