Wincanton Racecourse is to stage two Sunday race meetings that cater for all ages and interests.

This Sunday, March 24 sees Wincanton Racecourse celebrates Countryside Day with an action packed day of displays and interactive demonstrations that show the different aspects of glorious countryside pursuits, coupled with competitive racing.

Gates open at 12:30pm and families can enjoy a day’s racing with a feast of rural hobbies and free activities from £14 with complimentary entry for children 18 and under when accompanied by an adult. The six Bathwick Tyres sponsored racecard on Sunday, March 24 will also stage Ferret and Terrier Racing between races throughout the afternoon.

The Countryside Arena is active from 1pm with the Quack Pack making their racing debut with a hilariously entertaining duck herding demonstrations. Meirion Owen, an accomplished and well-respected sheepdog handler will manage a team of border collies and comical Indian Runner ducks – who run rather than waddle on their short legs - to provide an entertaining, educational and interactive display for racegoers.

There will also be traditional Ferret racing, Gundog & Working Lurcher demonstrations and a Falconry display. For younger racegoers, Wincanton’s mascot Winnie the Horse will be out and about for the entire meeting handing out free Wincanton sticker bugs. There is also complimentary face painting and a bouncy castle.

Wincanton’s infamous Children’s day coincides with the Easter Holidays on Sunday, April 21. The day stages a feast of child friendly activities from Pony Racing to a Donkey Derby as well as the chance to practice ball skills with Yeovil Town Football Club to riding a Rodeo Bull simulator!

Steve Parlett, Wincanton’s General Manager, explains the revamped raceday: “Children’s Day has grown in stature and attracts the future racegoer. This year with live pony racing, we are able to make racing more accessible to the next generation.”

Wincanton is also offering children the chance to design their own racing skills in association with Treehouse Sporting Colours. Competition details can be found online with a closing date of Thursday, March 27.
