Budleigh Salterton 2, Ottery St Mary 4
A lively East Devon derby encounter produced half a dozen goals, writes SpursTom.
The Robins took the early advantage nudging ahead with Russell Williams finding the target.
They continued to boss proceedings before the wheels came off as they conceded a brace of penalties within a couple of minutes of each other!
The first spot kick was blasted high over the bar, but Connor Swingler made no mistake with his opportunity, thus making the half time score 1 – 1.
Budleigh, like most of the youth games I’ve seen, conducted the half time talk pitch side, whereas the full Ottery party retreated to the sanctuary of the dressing room.
Whatever was said or planned behind closed doors worked as they came out in a purposeful manner, taking immediate control and forced good saves from the home glovesman.
Completely against the run of play Budleigh regained the lead with a fine lob from Ewan Anderson.
Unfazed, Ottery stormed back and Jamie Hill equalised, Conner Swingler added his second, and Harry McNamara completed the scoring, condemning Budleigh to a 2–4 defeat.
Two players stood out above the rest for the Robins, keeper Scott Bochemski and the very hard-working Tom Rockey. Sadly, the attitude of some others was disappointing.
