Vicary stars as Comets see off Exe jets

Comets were 47-33 winners when they met Exejets, writes Pamela Taylor.

The first three goals of the contest were all scored by Exejets, who made an impressive start.

However, once Comets, who were fielding a changed side in terms of positions, settled into the match, they began to score goals of their own and the first quarter ended with Comets holding an 11-7 lead.

Both teams’ shooters were in excellent form, rarely missing a shot when in possession of the ball, but it was a number of timely interceptions from the Comets defence of Yvonne Sparkes and Annabel Russell, that turned ball over and enabled Comets to increase their advantage by half-time to one of 10 goals.

Exejets came back strongly in the third quarter, boosted by goal attack Jaz Tuckett working hard on court and in the circle supplying shooter Molly Graham with opportunities that she took successfully. Comets had to work as hard on centre court to get the ball into their shooting circle and in this evenly-matched quarter only managed to increase their lead by one goal

The final quarter saw Comets consolidate their lead to go on and end as deserved winners.

The Player of the Match awards went to Jaz Tuckett for Exejets and Hannah Vicary for Comets.
