Exmouth Town were denied action on Saturday afternoon owing to a set of vandalised goal posts in South Devon, writes Steve Birley.

Upton Athletic of the South Devon League were scheduled to host Jody Bolt’s side with the game due to be played at Barton CC.

However Town were advised on Saturday morning that the previous night then goal frames had been vandalised.

Town’s John Dibsdall said: “We did offer them our ground to stage the game, but they declined saying they had players working until one o’clock”.

The tie will now be played this coming Saturday (2pm).

The cancellation may well have been a blessing in disguise for Town who had a number of players missing last weekend through injury. The injury woes arose following a midweek Axminster Hospital Cup tie with Budleigh Salterton that saw Town finish with ten men. Andrew Jones fired Town ahead on the hour, but the Robins levelled deep into added time at then end of the 90 minutes. Two extra-time goals saw Budleigh land a 3-1 win to take their place in the final of the competition which is played at the end of the current campaign.

If Town are able to get past this Saturday’s re-arranged tie against Upton Athletic then they will host fellow South West Peninsula league side Stoke Gabriel in the Tuesday, March 21 semi-final. The other last four game will see Liverton United host Buckland Athletic Reserves.
