Last Tuesday Budleigh Salterton Association Croquet Club team beat a strong Cornwall Croquet Club in the Federation League of the South West Federation, writes Michael Peters.
The final score was five matches to two in favour of Budleigh.
Charles Townshend beat Richard Griffiths, one of the South West’s top players with a handicap of minus one, shrewdly using his five-and-a-half bisques (extra turns).
Townshend had earlier paired up with Jackie Hardcastle to secure an emphatic double victory to the tune of a 26 hoops to one score line!
Peter Mallen won both his matches and Michael Peters secured the other win to leave Budleigh winning handsomely 5-0! Cornwall gained light consolation winning the final two games of the contest.
