The first Tuesday of September saw the latest leg of the Ironbridge Runner Summer 5k Series.

Back in town to guest for Exmouth Harriers was Berihu Tesfay who won the race comfortably in 14:57, pretty close to the course record despite being unchallenged for first place.

There have always been great rivalries in athletics and often intra-club contests are more intense than those across clubs.

Andrew Johnson and Dave Eveleigh were the only Exmouth Harriers to complete three races in the series.

Coe and Ovett it may not be, but going into this final run of this year’s event each had finished in front of the other once.

With no more than 200 metres to go Eveleigh looked to have done enough when he slowed drastically, allowing Andrew to pass him and claim club bragging rights.

On the night Johnson was 47th in 20:38 and third in the V45 whilst Eveleigh finished 48th in 20:43 which put him third in the V55 category.
