Three Exmouth Harriers participated in the Templer-10 race in Newton Abbott.

This race in fact measures in at 9.7 miles, but the lack of alliteration of the ‘Templer 9.7’ makes for a poor race title!

The route sees runners follow the Templer Way from Kingsteignton to Stover Country Park, where they circle Stover Lake before returning to the finish at the Passage House Hotel, along the banks of the River Teign.

Although the route is predominantly flat, heavy rainfall the night before meant that the fields were water-logged and very muddy, making progress slower than usual and more of an effort.

Revelling in the muddy conditions though the three female Harriers put in strong performances.

Ellie Sutcliffe led them home in a time of 1:04:15 for 22nd place overall and first female.

Lisa Hatchard followed, crossing the line in a time of 1:18:47 for 100th place overall and narrowly missing out on the runner up prize for women over 35, finishing just one place and 10 seconds behind her category rival.

Alison Milborrow, who has not been running long, put in a gutsy performance in the tough conditions, clocking 1:33:11 for 180th place overall out of the 231 finishers.
