Honiton 28:28 Exmouth
Exmouth Under-11s played their part in a superb game that ended with honours fittingly shared by both camps.
The home side started brightly and scored the opening try.
However, thereafter, and for the remainder of the first half, the Cockles dominated proceedings in all areas of the pitch.
With every player putting a shift in they were soon level when Aaron Brigham-Jones scored.
With the forwards winning every scrum as well as claiming most of the rucks that were being formed, the Cockles were a real force.
Cormac O’Mahony drove over for the second try and then, when yet another scrum was won 3-metres from the home line, scrum-half Brigham-Jones cut through on the blind side to nail his second try of the game. That sent the Cockles into the break with a healthy lead.
The second half was very much a reverse of the first! The home side clearly looked to increase the tempo and the Cockles players seemed a little jaded, understandable after their supreme efforts of the first half.
With the hosts taking charge they ran in three tries without reply to find themselves enjoying an arrow lead.
There was a break in play and the Cockles coaching staff made a few player changes and sought to champion then team that this game was most certainly not yet lost!
The words certainly worked for, in the dying minutes a sweeping move ended with Jack Greenaway taking the ball into contact and a maul was formed very close the Honiton line.
It looked as though the whole Exmouth team joined into the maul and, with plenty of noise, they managed to force Honiton back over their try line and Greenaway popped out the side of the maul to get the ball
down for the try! A massive cheer went up from the team and the supporting parents and families and the cheering continued as Nick Eveleigh slotted the last gasp conversion to ensure a 28-28 draw.
