The Devon Pétanque Region is a member of the English Pétanque Association (EPA), the governing body of pétanque in England, writes John Thatcher.

Pétanque is more normally known as the French game of boules, in fact pPétanque is the only recognised international form of the sport.

This Sunday (August 3), Devon Pétanque Region will host teams from Kernow (Cornwall) and the Great Western Region (Somerset, North Wiltshire and Gloucestershire) at the ISCA Bowls and Bridge Centre, Summer Lane, Whipton, Exeter, EX4 8NT.

Teams of three from each region will compete against each other starting at 10.30am and continuing until early evening (6pm).

Each match is played to 13 points with teams scoring oneoint for every one of their own boules closer to the jack than their opponent’s.

This is an annual event that Devon has often dominated, but Kernow has been pushing its neighbours hard over the past two years and this year’s event will be very competitive with all three regions striving to better each other.

Spectators are very welcome at any time during the day.
