Budleigh had a most enjoyable three-rink friendly at Sidmouth that ended in them enjoying a 61-53 victory.
Budleigh’s sole success was that of Burges Stace, who, skipping Don Huish, Peter Cooper and Harry Vanstone, had an eight shot deficit after 18 ends but then stole the match by scoring 12 on the run-in to win 20–16.
Gerry Roberts’ rink, who trailed 12-2 at one stage, fought back well to lead by one shot going into the final end. However, there was no happy ending as they went down by just two shots!
Padbrook Park, Cullompton, brought two mixed rinks for a friendly which ended in favour of the home side by 47 to 31.
Di Dixon, skipping Wally Nickels, Sue Job and John Vanstone, were three up after ten ends and went on to win 25–16. Ron Tyler’s rink completed a good day for Budleigh, finishing plus six.
In the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league, the Madeira Blues continue to challenge for the leadership with a 36–24 victory over the Budleigh Falcons.
Keith Edwards, Burges Stace and Brian Moore gained some consolation for the home team when winning a close game by four shots.
