Silk success for Lympstone boxer at Torquay

PUBLISHED: 11:35 10 April 2014 | UPDATED: 11:36 10 April 2014

Lympstone boxing club’s 13-year-old Jack Silk (54 kgs) featured in a junior supporting bout on the Torbay ABC tournament at the Riviera Centre, Torquay against the home club’s Karl Greatorix, writes Neil Parsons.

Greatorix started like a whirlwind trying to upset the Lympstone boxer, but Silk used his superb footwork to evade his opponents wild swings and counter with slick left right combinations to comfortably win the first.

Greatorix had some success in the second as Silk took his foot off the pedal and allowed the Torbay boxer to level proceedings.

After some stern words from the corner Silk got back to his boxing and again began to dominate with superb left right counters to keep the ever advancing Torbay boxer at bay and gain a good unanimous decision.

Silk is out again next Saturday at the Lemon Grove Exeter University when he faces Joey Orchard of St Austell, Orchard will be all out to win as Silk is the only boxer to have defeated the St Austell Boxer.

Lympstone’s final tournament of the season will be at the Exmouth Pavilion on Friday, May 23, when they will be playing host to a team from the famous Finchley ABC London.

The guest of honour for the evening will be the former British light-welterweight champion Darren Hamilton.
