A successful season on the England Under-17 junior badminton circuit has culminated in a St John’s International School student being promoted to the much coveted Gold circuit.

Fifteen-year-old William Fryers only played his first ever Under-17 tournament as a bronze player last September but moved swiftly into the silver circuit after just eight weeks!

Few players gain promotion from bronze to gold in the first age season and his aim now is to become a Gold star player by the end of his second year as an Under-17 player.

Fryers is the only South West player in the new seasons Under 17 to have reached this milestone and his success has been rewarded with a sports sponsorship from Asherway under the banner of Goode Sports who specialise in Badminton equipment and who are currently sponsoring selected sports men and women in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Fryer is thrilled to be the South West player chosen to use the latest high tech equipment and is looking forward to using the Dynamic Atomic Hex 6 racquet and wearing the latest kit under the Asherway logo.

Richard Lane of Newton Abbott, who coaches Fryers and a number of other players to success, is impressed with the commitment the Sidmouth youngster has shown to his training and has developed a challenging training schedule throughout the summer, ready for next seasons circuit which, if time will allow, will include some international tournament.
