Budleigh Reserves 1, Topsham Town 0
Budleigh were good value for a clean sheet victory over the Tops at Greenway Lane, writes SpursTom.
In a disappointing first 45 minutes Budleigh were the better side.
On too many occasions the final pass went astray!
The deadlock was broken in the 29th minute following a quickly taken throw in on the Robins’ right that led to a slick three-man move that ended with Callum Shipton scoring.
Only a tremendous save by the Tops glovesman prevented Budleigh taking a two goal lead into the break.
In the second half the Budleigh midfield began to exert a measure of control over proceedings as they put more accurate passes together and chances were created.
However, the finish did not match the approach! Much of the fact the game saw no further goals was down to the excellence of Topsham keeper, teenager James Sharman, who made at six impressive saves with either hands or feet by the teenager.
In the third minute of injury time Budleigh needed a goal-line clearance substitute Karl Riddell to preserve the three points.
Central defender Tim Nield was named Man of the Match for the Robins. Budleigh squad: J Hockold, C Wilson, T Nield, Z Pearce, M Pidgeon (N Bartlett 79mins), S Schleafli, A Denny, L Pollard (K Riddell 56mins), C Shipton, R Higham (D Everest 90 mins), J Sale. Unused substitutes were B Perry and R James.
