Totnes and Dartington 0, Exmouth Town 4
Exmouth Town made a fine start to the New Year with a convincing 4-0 victory over Totnes and Dartington, writes John Dibsdall.
Whilst this was a solid all round team performance what was most impressive was the quality of the goals any one of which would have deserved to seal a match on their own!
The opener came on twelve minutes. A measured pass down the line from Adam Fowler saw Ace High sprint past his marker and his driven cross from the bye-line was perfect for Ben Shephard to head home.
The second goal on sixty five minutes was started by a fifty yard diagonal pass from Ben Clay to High who this time cut inside and his cross along the six yard line was inch perfect for Shephard to sweep home.
The third was a splendid individual effort from Lloyd Gardner. Picking the ball up on the right hand touchline he dribbled past two defenders rounded the ‘keeper and shot home. This goal came on eighty six minutes and with ninety minutes on the clock an intricate passing move between Shephard, Gardner and Dan Boere set up Andrew Thomson for the fourth.
This game was not completely one sided as Totnes did hit the post with an excellent drive from twenty yards but Town also hit the woodwork with a header from Phil Everett and dominated play for long periods
All in all an excellent workout and it was pleasing to see Shephard back on the score sheet with his first goals since the end of September and it was only the linesman’s flag that that ruled out a third goal that would have given him a richly deserved hat trick.
This Saturday Town are at home to Alphington and kick-off is at 2.15pm (please note not 3pm as published elsewhere). When the sides met in early September Town won 4-1 with a brace from Boere and goals from Shephard and Nathan Doble.
