There was much to discuss at Woodbury Park last week in terms of the action on the fairways and the greens, writes John Bridgman.

Matthew Arscott forged ahead to win the Midweek Stableford with 34 points.

Peter Lawrence and Alistair Pilcher were seperated on countback having scored 33 points apiece.

The Acorns team took on the team away at Bovey Tracy Golf Center only to be taken apart by them, gaining only half a point of six on offer!

The return takes place later in July when it’s hoped a better result will prevail. The Seniors played out another of the major competitions, the June Cup.

It’s becoming apparent that the inform golfer is Dave Freeman scoring a magnificent 40 points.

Don Jones and Ian Joyner were second and third on countback with 33 points each.

Now is the time when many of the knockout competitions are in the final throws of being won or lost.

Simon Challis and partner Mark Newton playing in the Shayler Shield, found themselves late in the evening, playing against Robin Dummelow and Adrian Greenslade all square on the 18th.

So, off they went to the 19th, and managed to win. The time, just after 10 pm, with darkness falling fast they managed to get back to the clubhouse without getting lost in the dark!

Now for the big event of the weekend, the Mitie Cup, in which the overall winner was Robin Drake for the men and Jane Scoble for the ladies.

Well done, to them both, with a special mention for Domonic Wilson, a 20-handicapper, for a splendid hole-in-one on the fifth hole.

So winners and losers alike, the golf has been enjoyed by one and all here at wonderful Woodbury Park.

Until the next time, keep your eye on the ball.
