Withycombe player David Wellbeloved was part of some rugby history last weekend.

The Withy prop played in the world’s first deaf rugby international to be played on a 4G artificial pitch and he scored as Wales defeated England to win the 36-3.

Wellbeloved scored his try nine minutes into the second half to help Wales on their way to retaining the Broadstreet Cup.

Wales opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a converted try, but England responded immediately with a penalty. With half time nearing, further pressure inside the England twenty two by the Welsh forwards saw home fullback Wes Pooley cross for his second try of the game and Celyn Ashton’s conversion saw Wales lead 14-3 at the break.

Nine minutes into the second half came Wellbeloved’s moment to stretch the lead to 19-3.

Another penalty followed by two more tries for Man of the Match Pooley saw an end to the scoring as Wales recorded a resounding success at Cardiff Arm’s Park.
