Withycombe Under-7s enjoyed a successful morning at Paignton, returning unbeaten after a number of matches.

With both club’s having large squads several different teams were put together for the matches.

The opening game saw Withy make a superb start from which they never looked back and they went on to win some outstanding defence in the second half when the hosts were restricted to one try as Withy began to dominate and cut loose. Game two saw the only draw of the day with the home side drawing level in the final minute of the game.

Game three saw the newest of the Withy youngsters this season playing together for the first time, and they did not disappoint!

Some excellent handling from the fast-improving Max Rowley, and very direct running from Chloe Fellows saw Withycombe edge into a lead. The home team was equally positive in its play and they led before first time try scores for Brendan Moore and Jack Davies gave Withy a 6-5 win.

The last two games followed the same pattern with scores level at halftime only for Withy’s excellent support play and speed of thought from any knock-ons, coming to the fore as they recorded a brace of wins at 9-8 and 12-7.

By far the most pleasing aspect of the day was the fact that all twelve players on duty managed to get on the score sheet at least once. Man of the Match was Harry Dobrijevic, who not only scored his first try, but went on to bag a nap hand to underline how he has made significant progress in the first few weeks of the new season.
