Withycombe Under-16s brush aside visiting Paignton

Withycombe Under-16s marched on in their Fishermen’s Cup campaign with a 48-5 victory over Paignton at Raleigh Park.

Withy made a bright start and scored an early try when Josh Arbury crossed the visitors’ whitewash, but the Paignton response was swift and the score was soon 5-5.

Withy regained the lead with Josh Farr scoring a try and soon after Arbury crossed again to extend the Withy lead. Josh Saunders converted the second Arbury try and also converted a Ben Dawson try, enabling Withy to troop off at half-time sporting a 24-5 lead.

Withy used the second half to make a string of changes, but it did not affect their dominance of the contest.

Joe Blyth crossed for the first try after the break before the big Withy number three, young Arbury, completed his try hat-trick. His third try was a terrific individual effort as he broke free from inside his own half and ran for the line, brushing off a number of challenges before grounding the ball between the posts; Aaron Lee converted.

The next Withy try came from new signing Thomas Croal, marking his debut with the score. Croal had a fine game, showing good tackling skills and contributing greatly to the team effort. Lee slotted the conversion and the next try owed much to forward dominance prior to the try scored by Harry Neath-Rogers, converted by Lee, and there was still time for Max Dix to round off an impressive Withy show with the final try of the game and seal the 48-05 success.
