Withycombe Under-15s were 24-15 winners when they played Saracens at Bicton College.

Withy took to the pitch in their splendid new match shirts, which have been generously sponsored by Kris Daniels from local company Solve-IT.

The early exchanges were even-steven, with both sides making confident starts. Saracens got the first penalty of the match and they elected to kick and then use their heavy pack to move the Withy forwards about!

However, the Withy backs looked sharp and, after some exciting action at both ends of the pitch, the opening score arrived when Jor Graham powered over in the corner to give Withy the lead.

Saracens hit back, but the Withy defence was controlled, organised and disciplined and, after a couple of clearing kicks, Withy found themselves back on the Saracens’ 22-metre line from where, after a handling error by Saracens, Withy won a penalty from which Finn Musgrove recorded the second home try. Will Cooper slotted the conversion to send the home side into the break with the advantage.

From the re-start, Saracens knocked on and, from the ensuing scrum, Withy moved the ball slickly, first to the left, and then to the right, before Matt Shaw-Smith touched down in the corner.

Saracens hit back, and, when a couple of tackles were missed by the home side, Saracens’ inside centre crossed for this team’s first try of the contest.

Withy were soon on the front foot and a trademark weaving run from Tom Humphrey resulted in a fourth Withy try and Cooper slotted another conversion.

Saracens had the final say with the game’s sixth - and final - try, scored in the last minute of the contest.

The Withy Man of the Match award was shared by three players: Matt Oliver, for all-round good play; Matt Hicks, for good pressure play; and Tom Humphreys for his unpredictable runs.

The Withy Man of Steel award went to Finn Musgrove.
