Withycombe Under-12s drew their season to a close as they welcomed two touring sides from Wales to a sun-drenched Raleigh Park on the first weekend of May.

This season has been a steep learning curve for the Withy youngsters with no less than six boys making their rugby debuts during the year.

All six have clearly made huge improvements in every aspect of the game. This was clearly on show at the county festival last week.

Both matches were physical encounters and what was most pleasing for the Withy coaches was to see their young charges refuse to take a backward step!

It also proved to be a real difference in styles between the touring sides. Caerleon looking to play expansive rugby whilst Forgeside were very direct with ball, making it no further, in terms of territorial progress, than their very big player on almost every occasion. However, the Withycombe boys were more than up to the challenge.

As the final whistle was blown, the depleted Withy squad could take pride in their achievements on the day, with both touring teams having had to work hard to get anything from the games.

And so the 2017/18 campaign is now done and Withy U12s are keen to publicly thank Damian and all at M & D Autocare for their continued support throughout the season.

Now thoughts turn to the 2018/19 season and if there are youngsters out there, who will be in school year eight this September, no matter what their level of rugby experience might be, who would like to join a progressive rugby team that enjoys doing what they do, then they can find out more by contacting Mark Long on 07824 318030.
