Archant

A new batch of Withycombe Under-10s took to the pitch for the first time this season for matches against Newton Abbot.

With a squad of 24 youngsters itching to play, two balanced sides were fielded, one playing as Withy Black and the other as Withy Green.

In their opening game Withy Black were 7-0 winners with tries from Ben Wilkinson (2), Matthew Edworthy (2), Jayden Gore (2) and Max Rickards.

The Withy Man of the Match award went to Matthew Edworthy for outstanding tackling throughout.

Withy Green were 7-4 winners with Thomas Humphry helping himself to no fewer than five tries! Will Cooper and Matt Rye also crossed the Newton Abbot line whilst the Man of the Match award went to William Jones for outstanding tackling

Withy took the game to Newton in both matches with often ferocious tackling, good rucking and counter rucking to dominate possession.

With ball in hand the boys attacked well at pace with great linking. It was an all-round highly promising display by all the players.

The squad would like to welcome new players – Aaiden Preist, Ryan Bowyer, Jack Skinner and Josh Hammill who all made encouraging debuts.
