Withycombe played host to local rivals Topsham.

The first two matches played both produced Withy victories. Each of the first two performances had the now usual defensive game that is rapidly becoming this young Withy’s trademark!

Quick to rush their opponents and always lively to any handling errors and tagging opportunities, they gave the visitors no time to settle and recorded 9-4 and 8-7 wins with highlights being some superb running from Jack MacDonald-Brown and Otto Montgomery-Ames, whilst Jamie Thomson and Kieran Long both caught the eye with the defensive work.

On the next pitch Max Rowley and Thomas Lawrence both served up their best performances of the season both displaying excellent handling and passing. However, the two matches played resulted in a Topsham win and a drawn game. it

proved not be enough as Topsham fought back with a win and a draw.

Withycombe took the opportunity to mix up their line-ups for the final round of games and this proved to be a most fruitful exercise!

The youngest Withy player Jack Davies showed what the coaches have been seeing

in the last couple of weeks! His strong running and genuine determination

in the tackle, saw hi put in the man of the Match shift! Two others to shine in particular were Abigail Cotter and Tyler Gover who both showed real improvement from their previous matches.

A Withy coach said: “All in all this was an outstanding performance from the whole team, and some excellent results were achieved with several players missing”

On the morning Withy won three, lost two and one game was drawn.

The try scorers were Jack MacDonald-Brown (1), Jamie Thomson (9), Otto Montgomery-Ames (8), Kieran Long (5), Thomas Lawrence (3), Max Rowley (3) and one each from Abigail Cotter and Jack Davies.
