Withycombe Under-10 action versus Tavistock

Archant

Withycombe Under-10 came up against Tavistock for the very first time and the two sides put on a couple of compelling matches.

Tavistock proved to be formidable opposition and were good value for their brace of wins against a Withy squad of 13 players.

In the first game Withy were slow to respond and, as a result, were repeatedly pushed off their own ball, allowing the visitors to forcefully dominate and cruise to a comfortable victory.

The two teams then stood together to observe an impeccable two-minute silence for Remembrance Day before playing the second match of the morning.

This game saw Withy’s players finally wake up! They certainly performed with greater determination and energy, and this helped see them into half-time with a 1-0 advantage.

They were fully deserving of the lead after a half that had seen them display excellent tackling and handling.

After the break Tavistock grew stronger and ran in four tries, despite some exceptionally determined Withy defending.

However, Withy had the final say when they applied pressure in the final quarter to deservedly score their second try of the match.

The Withy scorers were Tom Real and Matt Rye.

In game one the Withy Man of the Match award went to Joe Graham for his determined play from first whistle to last, whilst in match two the award was won by Ryan Bower for his great awareness throughout.
