Exmouth Under-11s made the long journey to Cornwall to challenge a Launceston side which they knew to be a big and physical team which could set up an intense battle in difficult conditions following heavy rain.

The Cockles were superb throughout and richly deserving of a 43-25 success.

Having not played for two weeks, due to games being cancelled, the young Cockles were quick out of the blocks and placed Launceston under pressure from the off, closing down the opposition whenever they attempted to move play forward.

Eventually they were rewarded with a try in the corner from Luke Davis which was duly converted by Arron Lee.

The home side began to use their big forwards to effect and, from a line-out 5-metres out, they gathered the ball and drove over.

The score sparked an impressive response fro the Cockles who started to move the ball phase after phase and their superiority in basic skills soon produced an opportunity for Lee to score, but unfortunately he was unable to kick the extra two points.

Injury then struck with Cockles hooker Harry Neath-Rogers having to be replaced.

Exmouth were awarded a scrum which the heavier Launceston Pack won, however, their long kick from their touch line was safely gathered by Davis who carried the ball over to score, but Lee found his usual reliability with the boot absent and the extras were missed.

In the second half, despite changes to formation, the Cockles continued to play with vigour and although they struggled in the scrum the pace was too much for Launceston.

Further tries were scored by Eddie Ford, Owen Tidball Toby McConaghy and Richard Forrest.

The latter, whose try concluded the match, was outstanding in his first competitive game of rugby and was duly awarded Player of the Match.

Kicking duty in the second half was taken up by Luke Davis who was successful with three out of four attempts with one coming back off the post.

The tackler of the match award went to Eddie Ford who was taking part for the first time since breaking his arm on the beach during the summer holidays.
