Exmouth begin their 2018 fixture schedule with the game at Hornets looking to do something that they have not managed since January 2013 – win the first game of a new year!

The last time the Cockles were successful in their first outing of a new year was on January 5, 2013 when they won their then National League Three (S) Imperial Ground meeting with Old Patesians 29-11.

Since then the first game of a new year has not gone well for the Cockles as they have lost on each of the past four years!

In 2014 they were without a game when the rest of National League Two (S) played. However, they were in action on January 11 with a league visit to London Irish Wild Geese that saw the Cockles go down 21-15.

In 2015, playing in National League Three (S), the Cockles were in action at Bournemouth on January 3, and they went down 10-0.

A year later, on January 2, 2016, the Cockles were again in National Three (S) action when they visited Lydney who defeated them 30-10 and last year, on January 7, 2017, the team were once again on the road and up in South West London with a visit to London Irish Wild Geese who won the first game of the year 59-34.

Here’s hoping for better news from the game at Hornets on this first Saturday of this year!
