East Budleigh Reserves 1, Stoke Hill 4
It was another bad afternoon at the office for East Budleigh Reserves, who after a good first half, eventually ended up well beaten, writes Mark Auton.
Budleigh began welland Ben Rowland fired just over and, from a Mark Bown clearance, Joe Rosser was denied by the boot of the visiting stopper.
In what was a brisk start the Exeter side struck the foot of the post as they came more into the game.
Budleigh were then forced to replace the injured Harry Trick; Paul May saw his header from Matt Thomas’ corner cleared off the line before Stoke took a 35th minute lead.
Five minutes later Budleigh levelled when Rosser showed persistence jinking his way past three defenders before squeezing the ball into the net.
As the half-time whistle approached Rosser hit the upright after good work from Max Tooby.
Unfortunately for Budleigh the next 45 minutes need to be forgotten as the away side added a penalty and two further goals to win the game with a number of Budleigh players going missing.
The desire to win was not evident enough with players easily bullied off the ball. If Budleigh are to survive relegation this season they need the whole side giving 100 per cent and not just half the team !
They can begin to put this right when they go to Exwick Village on Saturday, before entertaining Newton St Cyres on Easter Monday. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
