East Budleigh Reserves 3, Ottery St Mary Reserves 0
East Budleigh Reserves finally got what they deserved following recent games, with this good all round win over Ottery St Mary last Saturday, writes Mark Auton.
Three goals in the last twenty minutes gave Budleigh the points as a Jack Hocking goal was sandwiched between a double from Joe Rosser.
The first period saw Budleigh go close early on with Ben Wilks involved in most things good, whilst Man of the Match Ben Wyatt was orchestrating the midfield alongside Harry Trick.
Goalmouth action was minimal in a scoreless first half, but Budleigh keeper Mark Bown showed a safe pair of hands when called upon and his defence of Max Tooby, Adam Wheatley, Rich Wyatt and Gary Western were all sharp in the tackle
The second period was a much better watch with both sides upping their game.
Budleigh made a triple change, sending on Ryan Britton, Hocking and Tom Hurley and, midway through the half, Tom Christian curled a shot just wide before Rosser broke the deadlock with twenty minutes to go, his shot finding the far corner of the net.
Five minutes later Hocking slid in number two, before goal the third arrived in the 79th minute when Rich Wyatt’s pass out of defence was touched on by Hocking for Rosser who produced a competent left foot finish for his 11th goal of the season.
Rosser was unlucky not to earn the match ball when denied his hat-trick by the away stopper following a jinking run and shot from Britton.
It was a solid team effort from Budleigh who will look for a similar response when they visit Exwick this Saturday.
