There were mixed fortunes for Lympstone boxers on the Saturday night bill at the Riviera Centre Torbay, writes Ian Parsons.
Aaron Robinson, 13 yrs and 45kg met Alex Loewy, 13 yrs and 46kg. Robinson attacked from the first bell forcing Lowey to go on the defensive. Early in the second round Robinson landed a good three-punch combination that forced the referee to administer a standing count. Sensing the end was near Robinson again powered forward with another onslaught that had the Torbay boxer falling through the ropes landing on the judges table and receiving a second eight count!
Lowey bravely weathered the storm and found a new lease of life in the third, landing
some good punches on the ever advancing Lympstone boxer, but Robnson had built up a commanding lead to gain the judges verdict with scores of 15-9,15-13, 14-12.
Jared Jones, 75kg, met Ashley Williams, 75kgs, from Camborne ABC. This was a classic boxer-versus-fighter contest in which the fighter came off best!
Williams continually threw wild swinging punches that the normally cool Jones had no answer to and, after three torrid rounds, Williams was awarded a majority decision with scores of 14-12, 13-12, 12-14.
After the bout Jones announced that he would be taking a break from boxing.
