Stoke Gabriel 6, Budleigh Salterton 2
The Robins unbeaten start to the season came to an end when they travelled to Stoke Gabriel, writes Alan Beer.
The Robins got off to a good start and on just the first minute player-boss Danny Williams saw his powerful shot was well saved by home keeper Grant Fisher. The ball rebounded to Peter Grover, but his shot was also blocked by a defender.
The ball once again cannoned back to him and he made no mistake with his second attempt. The hosts levelled when a long clearance found Jordan Hopkins and he headed over the advancing Budleigh keeper. On the half hour mark Hopkins was brought down in the box, Gary Fisher making no mistake from 12-yards to send the home side into the break with a 2-1 advantage. Six minutes into the second period the hosts increased their lead when Dave Worthington tapped in from close range. In the following five minutes the lead increased to 5-1 with goals from Mark Newbold and another for Worthington. Williams reduced the deficit picking up a through ball from substitute Mike Hancock and finishing from 18 yards. Finally Man of the Match Hopkins got his second to give the hosts a comfortable victory.
Team: Hockhold, Nicholls, Ellis, Everest, Pallett, Sale, Pannell, Wright, Turner, Grover, Williams. Subs: Carr, Hancock (both played).
The Robins are back on their travels this Saturday (September 15) when they go to Newton Abbot Spurs. Having beaten the same opposition just a fortnight ago at Greenway Lane they will travel with confidence of a swift return to wining ways.
