Just two more point-to-point meetings remain in the UK before the season draws to a close at Umberleigh on June 18, and there are plenty of quality runners set to line up at Sunday’s meeting at Bratton Down, writes Lucy Johnson.
The Tiverton Staghounds members’ race kicks off the card at 2pm and the Leslie Jefford-trained Regime Change is sure to be a warm order to follow up his win at Upcott Cross last month when he came home the three quarters of a length winner in a 15-strong field.
Next up is the intermediate and Jopero and Portrait Games could re-oppose each other. The former was a winner at the course on Saturday while Portrait Games beat Jopero by a head at Trebudannon last month.
Also entered is recent Grafton restricted winner Cavile Zeta and Vote For Doddle who has notched up five successes this season.
The men’s open has attracted a quality field of 16 entries. Caught In Time has progressed nicely this season since his maiden win at Kingston Blount in March, Cedrus Libani last four outings have all been winning ones, Flanshan couldn’t have won any easier at Holnicote in May and Roll On Rose had the unusual honour of winning two races on one day at Upcott Cross in March when she walked over the members race and then won the novice riders’ race.
Ladies’ entries include The Noble Roman who has won his last two starts and John Pearn’s Deloughtane who has been ridden to success five times this season by his daughter Alice.
Son of Karinga was an easy winner of a maiden race at Garthorpe in May and the seven-year-old could make the long trip to Exmoor to continue his progress in the restricted race.
Last race on the card is the open maiden and Lucia Popp ran well at Upcott Cross in May where she was beaten three quarters of a length by Regime Change. She could go one better on Sunday.
The course is situated at Bratton Flemming nine miles north east of Barnstaple on the A399, 11 miles north of South Molton, postcode EX31 4SG.
Entrance is £20 per car and £10 for a single occupant.
