Phear Park travelled to Feniton for a four-rink Friday friendly, writes Mike Pope.
A lovely sunny afternoon and an excellent green made for an enjoyable game for us all.
This was especially true as it started to rain just a few minutes after we finished the game!
Feniton were too welcoming and allowed us to win on three of the four rinks. John Robins led Faye Downend, Christine Hatchard and Jim Letten to a 21-19 win, while Bob Smith’s team of Peter Burch, Margaret Kenny and Freda Relph were 21-15 victors.
However, the biggest margin was on John Relph’s rink of Eileen Burnham, Mike Pope and Marg Lock who won by 22 shots to 13 giving Park an overall win of 82 shots to 69.
Saturday’s game was a four rinker against Bradninch at Bradninch
and honours were even on the rinks with Park winning on two and Bradninch on two.
John Robins led Peter Burch, Brian Halsey and Marg Lock to a three shot victory while John Relph skipped John Anderson, Joy Mottershead and Freda Relph to a convincing 24 shots to 19 win. Overall, Bradninch came out winners by 70 shots to 63.
The final game for the ladies evening league saw Park away to Ottery St Mary. Sarah Westacott’s team of Eileen Burnham won by just two shots with a score of 15-13 while the other rink suffered a heavy 25-7 reversal.
Ottery took four of the six points on offer in this the last league fixture of the season.
Both the men’s Over-60s teams were at home for their last games this season. The A team struggling against relegation, met Sidmouth, contenders for promotion, in their division and were defeated on both rinks losing overall 49-35.
There was better news for the fourth placed B team when they took on promotion contenders Chagford.
Park won on both rinks with David Martin’s team of Rob Mottershead and John Anderson winning 23-10 and Mike Pope’s team of Ron Rooke and Billy Hanley winning 20-14 after being 11 shots each on the eleventh end.
Wanborough Tourists visited for a five-rink match and were beaten on three of them.
Glenda Pope’s rink of Eileen burnham, Brian Halsey and Jackie Cruse squeezed home by one shot, while the other two winning rinks were, Bob Smith with John Anderson, Christine Hatchard and Jim Letten who won 26-19 and John Robins with John Relph, Rob Mottershead and Freda Relph who won 28-16.
Park won overall by 101 shots to 94.
