Phear Park Over-60s B make winning start to new season

The merry month of May started well for Phear Park with a convincing win away from home against a strong Exonia team by 28 shots, writes David Evans.

The triple of R Tatchell, R Rooke and skip S Westacott had a runaway victory of 28 shots to seven.

The Over-60s League B team made a good start to the season with a well-merited 8-0 win against a Crediton side at home and will have high hopes for the season with more players to choose from this year. The same cannot be said for the A team, who had a bad game against Pinces Gardens, to whom they went down 8-0. In other bowls action, Phear Park went across to Ottery St Mary, who always field a very competitive team on a lovely green and, although winning on two rinks, Phear Park experienced a deficit of 32 shots overall, mainly made up of one rink who shall be nameless, going down 39-5! For the final game of the week, Park entertained an Uffculme side on a perfect green that some players would call heavy and we only lost on one rink and finished 74-55. It may be worth mentioning that John Robins’ triple were losing 14-5 at the 13th end, but finished the game with a six and a four on the final two ends.
