Crediton United 0, Budleigh Salterton 1
Budleigh Salterton completed a very efficient week with a midweek cup success followed by a single goal victory in Mid Devon, writes Alan Beer.
The cup triumph saw the Robins knock Chard Town out of the Axminster Hospital Cup thanks to a Sam Schlaefli goal mid way through the second half.
The trip to Lords Meadow heralded first use of that pitch since November
and this showed in the quality of the football, with both teams unable to really
come to terms with the state of the pitch. The only goal of the contest arrived in the ninth minute.
Peter Grover worked an opening to cross through the 18-yard box, and George Pannell made space to fire home at the far post. The hosts best chance came five minutes before the break when John Veale had a 25-yard shot tipped over the bar by Adrian Pullin.
Budleigh went close to increasing their lead 10 minutes into the half when Danny Williams floated in a free kick which was headed just over the bar by Carl Everest. A couple of good saves by the home keeper, James Satchell, kept the goal tally to a minimum, but Budleigh Salterton secured another three points on the road sealing their eighth away success in eleven Peninsula League outings this season.
On Saturday the Robins travel to Appledore looking to put the record straight after they went down 5-1 to the North Devon side before Christmas.
Budleigh team: Pullin, Hancock, Everest (Carr), Ellis, Pallett, Nield, Lever, Pannell, Grover (Williams), Greenslade (Wright), Schlaefli.
