Otterton progressed to the Intermediate Cup Final after an impressive win against the Perry Street Premier outfit.
The fact that the game went ahead was very much down to the herculean efforts of Andy Mitchell, Pete and Nicola Mclean, Ryan Mitchell, Ben Yeomans and Nick Tweedie, who were on duty early on match day to make sure the surface was fit for play.
The Otters began brightly with an eye-catching brand of passing football. However, the visitors struck first when they capitalised on a defensive mix-up to take an 11th minute lead.
Undaunted Otterton swiftly returned to getting the ball down with Jon Dack and Gary Williams taking charge of the middle third and the industrious enterprise was rewarded with a 25th minute leveller.
It was Ryan Mitchell who got the goal, though it had an element of good fortune about it. Mitchell chased down a poor back-pass to the Farway keeper and, when the glovesman hurried his clearance, it struck Mitchell before rolling into the empty net!
Parity was no more than Otterton deserved and they got their noses in front just before the break when a well-flighted free kick from Luke Iddon was flicked on by Gary Williams before falling to Lee Mitchell to thump home from 6-yards.
The second half started as the first finished and Otterton grabbed a third goal when, shortly after coming of the bench, Mark Dobrijevic took a pass from Lee Mitchell and thumped the ball, beyond the keeper.
Many sides would have looked to close the game out at that stage, not the Otters though, as they continued to press and Charlie Copplestone, Lee Mitchell and Ben Yeomans all went close to netting a fourth.
At the other end Farway got little change out of the impressive Otters back line in which Nick Tweedie, Dinky Thomas, Lee Chapman and Luke Iddon were outstanding in front of the commanding goal keeper Adam Williams.
The final whistle was greeted with much joy by a large and appreciative home crowd who celebrated the hard work that had gone in on, and off the pitch to chalk up another famous day in the clubs history.
Boss Pete Mclean: “It’s always nice to have a good cup run and luckily we have managed to get to one final already this season and we are in the semi-final of another. Our main aim remains to gain promotion, but we have our sights set firmly now on looking for a league and cup double. We’d also then celebrate back-to-back promotions. This is a young team that has bags of potential so it looks as if we are in for a bright future and hopefully get Otterton back to where we feel it belongs”
Otterton now await the winners of this Saturday’s Sampford Peverell versus Milwey Rise tie to see who they will face in the east area final, the winners of that will then move into the main County semi-finals.
This Saturday the Otters travel to meet a Newton St Cyres outfit who sit fourth bottom of Division Seven.
A win in Mid Devon and favourable results elsewhere and Otterton will sit in a promotion berth come full time!
